Beneteau's Antares 42 - full test report in May's MBY
date:
09-04-2010
Following a press event held in Marseille last month, Motor Boat and Yachting published a test report on the new Beneteau Antares 42 in next month's issue.
During the two day event, MBY journalists on board were able to put this new Beneteau flybridge cruiser to a proper test. They had a bit of everything to deal with....flat calm, short chops and even breaking waves. And what really surprised one and all was the stiffness of the 42 in a tough sea. She didn't only inspire the confidence when standing beside her at the dock, but also just prior to hitting a breaking wave at 20 knots. Her 'superb hull' made for a soft and dry ride and with a 3 to 4 foot short chop the Beneteau hull was in its element. Admittedly in flat water the 42 did lack a couple of knots in terms of top speed which might be made up for by a very good fuel efficiency rating.
On the fly, there were a couple of small modifications that the factory need to consider but otherwise it was rated as a very well designed social space....with full marks given to fridge under the sunpad.
Down below the wraparound windscreen and the extent of space in the master and VIP cabins and their respective ensuite heads seemed to be the highlights.
The verdict - a no frills, but no nonsense either, tough boat with a price tag that is hard to resist.
For those interested we have a copy of the publication at the office already. Let us know if you wish us to receive a scan of the test report.
